John van Lottum

John van Lottum ( born April 10, 1976 in Antananarivo, Madagascar ) is a former Dutch tennis player.

Life

Van Lottum, whose older sister played Noëlle 1987-1999 on the WTA Tour, in 1994 a professional tennis player. In the first two years tour he was only moderately successful and played on the unterklassigen Satellite Tour. In 1996, he reached a quarter-final on the ATP Challenger Tour for the first time. The following year, he was in Amsterdam for the first time in the quarter- finals of a tournament, the ATP World Tour. In 1998, he came as a qualifier into the main draw of San Jose, where he surprisingly defeated Todd Martin on the way to the semifinals and lost in three sets against Pete Sampras. 1999 was his best career year; he was in Madras and at the ATP International Series Gold tournament in Memphis in the semifinals and was also in Ho Chi Minh City win his first individual title on the ATP Challenger Tour. In November of that year he had to undergo a knee operation, but could already take his career back in January 2000 and won with Jan Siemerink his only double title at the Challenger tournament in Heilbronn. Until 2002, he won a total of five individual titles on the ATP Challenger Tour, a title on the ATP World Tour he never succeeded. The highest quotation in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1999 with position 62 in the individual and in 2003 with position 232 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the second round of Wimbledon 1998. Guillaume Raoux He overcame it, Sebastien Lareau and Tommy Haas before Petr Korda was defeated in three sets itself. In the doubles competition, he reached each time the second round of the Australian Open and the French Open.

Van Lottum played 1988-2006 three single and three double matches for the Dutch Davis Cup team. While he was able to win two of the three doubles, he was defeated in all individual matches; including in the game against Germany in the first round of the World Group in 2000, when he lost to Tommy Haas and David Prinosil.

After the end of his professional career, he was a commentator at Euro Sport.
