John Van Ryn

John Van Ryn (* June 30, 1905 in Newport News, Virginia; † 7 August 1999), was an American tennis player.

Biography

Van Ryn won at the beginning of the 1930s, three times in a row at Wimbledon ( 1929-1931 ), once the French and even the American Championships (both 1931). His most successful year was 1931 when he won three of four Grand Slam tournaments in a double for himself. Van Ryn's doubles partner in these successes were twice George Lott and three times Wilmer Allison, both Americans.

He played 32 games for the U.S. Davis Cup team and of which 29 could decide for themselves. In 1963, the induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Van Ryn was the husband of Marjorie Van Ryn tennis player.
