John W. Moon

John Wesley Moon (* January 18, 1836 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, † April 5, 1898 in Muskegon, Michigan ) was an American politician. Between 1893 and 1895 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Moon attended the public schools of his home. In 1854 he moved to the northern part of the State of Michigan, where he worked in the timber industry. He settled in 1856 in Muskegon, where he was also active in the lumber business. Soon, he joined in the banking industry. In his new hometown, he served as treasurer and mayor. Politically Moon was a member of the Republican Party. In 1884 and 1886 he was elected to the Senate from Michigan. In 1887 he became president of the Muskegon Savings Bank; in 1891 he sat in the Education Committee of Muskegon.

In the congressional elections of 1892 he was in the ninth constituency of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Harrison H. Wheeler on March 4, 1893. Since he resigned in 1894 to run again, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1895. After his retirement from the House of Representatives John Moon took his previous activities on again. He died on 5 April 1898 in Muskegon, where he was also buried.
