John Walsh (printer)

John Walsh ( * 1665 in London, † March 13, 1736 ) was an English music publishers and instrument makers.

Between 1695 and 1730 Walsh published mostly with John Hare pieces in a hitherto unknown print run. In addition to works by English composers, he published popular works of Italian masters, especially, for example, until late in the 18th century popular in England trio sonatas by Corelli, which have been reissued by the company Walsh often. This was not unusual as a black copy (then not rare) of the Dutch editions of Estienne Roger. Walsh was an able businessman who knew through advertising, subscriptions and distribution of free sample copies to promote his publishing. Over the years, he had brought it to a supremacy of music editions in the UK market. In 1711 he moved from the pressure of Georg Friedrich Handel's opera Rinaldo a large profit. His son John Walsh ( Jr. ) ( 1709-1766 ) deepened from 1730 relations with Handel and published all the late compositions of Halle, Master.
