John Wenceslau Wratislaw von Mitrowitz

Johann Wenzel Wratislaw of Mitrowitz (* November 25, 1669 in Prague, † December 21, 1712 ) was Supreme Chancellor of Bohemia.

Count Johann Wenzel Wratislaw of Mitrowitz came from a Bohemian noble family, was a lawyer and took a trip through Europe. He was encouraged by his uncle, Count Franz Ulrich Kinsky, 1695 Member of the Austrian Chancellery. At the beginning of the 18th century, he worked as a diplomat in London and The Hague, where he worked on the conclusion of the alliance against France. So he signed on 7 September 1701, the Hague Grand Alliance, after he had proved in the previous negotiations as a realist, who realized that Austria could not get the entire Spanish inheritance. At that time he was a foreign policy partner, counselor and friend of the commander Eugene of Savoy, with whom he tuned his actions in the future. He supported Eugen before the Battle of Blenheim by this induced the British commander Marlborough to move to southern Germany and then the actions of the two coordinate helped. But after the conquest of Bavaria the more popular at the court of Count Lowenstein was not he, like Eugene had proposed, but as governor.

When Emperor Leopold I in 1705, died Wratislaw chancellor and foreign policy adviser to the emperor was appointed by Joseph I of Bohemia. However, he found in the educator Joseph, the colonel Hofmeister Karl Theodor Otto Salm, a competitor who sought him stones to put in the way. In the aftermath Wratislaw Eugen advised against it, to take the command of the Spanish front, because in his opinion to Italy and Austria, but not Spain and Austria could govern together and thus a military action, even if it were successful, there is little sense would result. Upon the death of the Emperor Wratislaw was as Minister Member of the Advisory Board of the regent Eleonore Magdalene. This prompted Joseph's brother, Charles, to return from Catalonia. Karl confirmed as Emperor Wratislaw in his offices and that remained in the subsequent period in Vienna. The corpulent Wratislaw died on December 21, 1712 at the dropsy.
