John White (Kentucky politician)

John D. White ( born February 14, 1802 in Cumberland Gap, Bell County, Kentucky, † September 22, 1845 in Richmond, Kentucky ) was an American politician. He was several years in the Congress of the United States from 1841 to 1843 and was Speaker of the House.

Life and work

John White was born in Cumberland Cap, now Middlesboro. He enjoyed only a brief education, then learned yet the profession of lawyer and was approved by the Bar Association. He then moved to Richmond to work as a lawyer. In 1832 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Kentucky, three years later, he moved on 4 March 1835 as deputy of the Whigs in the 24th U.S. Congress and was selected in each case over the next four meetings over again until the third he March 1845 the Congress left. In the 27th Congress he was even speaker of the House of Representatives.

On 8 February 1845 he was appointed judge in Kentucky, where he, a few months later, worked until his death on 22 September 1845. He is buried in the State Cemetery in Frankfort. He was the uncle of Congressman John D. White ( 1849-1920 ).
