John Whitelocke

John Whitelocke (* 1757, † October 23, 1833 ) was a British officer.

Whitelocke entered 1778 into the army and served under other in Jamaica. In 1805 he was appointed lieutenant general. 1807 should be conquered under his command Buenos Aires. For this purpose he met on May 10, 1807, at three months earlier occupied by the troops of Samuel Auchmutys Montevideo with a troop strength of 6,000 men and took over the local military command. However Whitelocke had to capitulate on July 5, 1807 at the local attempt at conquest, after he had to lament losses of 1100 killed and 1500 prisoners in his army after the successful landing on June 28, 1807 in Ensenada in the south of Buenos Aires. On September 9, 1807, he left with his troops Montevideo. On October 23, 1833 Whitelocke died in Beaconsfield.
