John William Ashe

John William Ashe ( born August 20, 1954 in Saint John 's, Antigua and Barbuda) is president of the UN General Assembly during its 68th session. He was also ambassador to Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations.

Life

He studied at the University of Pennsylvania, Saint Mary's University Halifax and today's Dalhousie University, also in Halifax.

Since 1989, Ashe worked in various positions at the United Nations. The highlight of his career was his election to the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly on June 14, 2013, which was unlike his predecessor Vuk Jeremic without crucial vote. He is married and father of two children.
