John William Chapman

John William Chapman (born 8 September 1894 in Crete, Nebraska; † August 1978 ) was an American politician. Between 1953 and 1961 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Illinois.

Career

John Chapman attended the public schools in Chicago and studied at the University of Chicago after that. After a subsequent law degree from the Law School of the University and his 1917 was admitted to the bar he began in the 1920s to work in Chicago in his profession. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. In 1927 he became a member of the City Council of Chicago. Since 1941 he lived in Springfield. Between 1941 and 1949 he was on the staff of Governor Dwight H. Green. From 1941 to 1950 he sat in his state parole board.

Chapman was elected in 1952 on the side of William Stratton for Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. This post he held between January 1953 and January 9, 1961 12. Yet he was assistant to the governor. In 1960 he was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention, was nominated for the Vice-President Richard Nixon as a presidential candidate. After that, he is no longer politically have appeared.
