John William De Forest

John William De Forest ( born March 31, 1826 in Humphreysville (now Seymour ), Conn.; † July 17, 1906 in New Haven, Connecticut ) was an American writer.

De Forest's novel Miss Revenel 's Conversion from Secession to Loyalty is one of the first realistic novels of American literature. He processed in his experience in the American Civil War and joined detail and psychological accuracy with melodramatic plot.
