John Winebrenner Rife

John Winebrenner Rife ( born August 14, 1846 in Middletown, Pennsylvania, † April 17, 1908 ) was an American politician. Between 1889 and 1893 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

John Rife attended the common schools and then completed an apprenticeship in the tanning trade. In 1864 he took part in an infantry regiment from Pennsylvania in the Civil War as a soldier. Later he hit as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In 1871 he sat in the council of Middletown; in the years 1877 and 1878 he was mayor there. Between 1885 and 1886 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Rife has been renowned in the railroad business and became president of the Railway Company Middletown & Hummelstown Railroad Co.

In the congressional elections of 1888 Rife in the 14th electoral district of Pennsylvania was in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Franklin Bound on March 4, 1889. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1893 two legislative sessions. In 1892 he gave up another candidacy. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives John Rife is no longer politically have appeared. He died on April 17, 1908 in Middletown, where he was also buried.
