John Winter (athlete)

John Arthur Winter ( born December 3, 1924 in Perth, Western Australia, † December 5, 2007 in Perth ) was an Australian athlete.

Winter became the first Australian in the Summer Olympic Games in London in 1948 the gold medal in the high jump after he could cross the only the height of 1.98 meters. The Olympic victory was surprising, as the remaining four competitors in the competition for the gold medal all could show a higher than Best winter.

Two years later he succeeded at the British Empire Games in 1950 in Auckland, another victory, again jumped winter as the only over 1.98 meters.
