John X of Antioch

John X Yazigi ( born January 1, 1955 in Latakia, Syria ) is the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and spiritual leader of the Orthodox Church of Antioch ( Rum Orthodox Church ) and the Orthodox liturgy scientists.

Biography

After his matriculation, he studied civil engineering at the University Tichrin in Syria. Then he began to study theology and Byzantine music at various theological institutes (University of Balamand with a bachelor degree in Orthodox Theology), graduating with a thesis on the Holy Baptism, a historical, theological and liturgical studies at the University of Thessaloniki, as well as with a thesis from Thessaloniki at the Conservatory of Byzantine music. He was ordained a deacon in 1979 and priest in 1983 by the Metropolitan Yuhanna Mansour in Lattakia. Then he taught the subject at the Liturgy of St. John Damascus Institute of Theology Faculty in Balamand. From 1988-1991 and from 2001-2005 he was the Dean of the Faculty. He was in the years 2001 to 2005, Abbot of the Monastery of Balamand. Currently, the Metropolitan is also Spiritual Director of the monastery of Virgin Mary Blemmena, Tartous, Syria. In 1995 he was appointed Bishop of Pyrgou, ( Arabic Wadi An- Nasara and Al -Hosn ) appointed. In 2008, he became Metropolitan of Western and Central Europe. On 17 December 2012, he was elected Patriarch of Antioch and All the East.
