Johnnie To

Johnnie To Kei -tion also known as Johnnie To (杜琪峰; born April 22, 1955 in Hong Kong) is a Chinese film director and producer based in Hong Kong.

Life

His career started in 1974 as a production assistant Johnnie To the Chinese TV station Television Broadcasts Limited ( TVB ). Only three years later, he rose in the company to the director and producer on the Department of Drama. His first production was followed in 1980 with The Enigmatic Case (Bi shui han shan duo ming jin ). In the 1980s and 1990s was followed by about 30 films a highly productive and successful period of creativity that made him known beyond the country's borders.

He became famous in 1989 when his film The Story of Ah Long with Chow Yun -Fat was one of the biggest box office hit of the year in Hong Kong. He also turned a lot of comedies, such as Needing You and action films ( PTU). In recent years, many of his films were represented at the most famous film festivals in the world, such as Throw Down 2004 Exiled in 2006 at the Venice Film Festival. 2004 Johnnie To was awarded Cannes for his film Breaking News at the film festival. Also at the Toronto Film Festival, the Berlinale and the Asia Filmfest his films are permanently represented since 1999.

2008 Zur was appointed to the jury of the 65th Venice Film Festival, chaired by the German director Wim Wenders. A year later he received for Vengeance, in which Johnny Hallyday plays a former hitman in Hong Kong, an invitation to compete in the 62nd International film festival in Cannes. Two years later, To was appointed to the jury of the 64th Cannes Film Festival. 2011 followed for Dyut Ming Gam ( Life Without Principle ) Tos third invitation to the competition of Venice.
