Johnny Bond

Johnny Bond ( born June 1, 1915 as Cyrus Whitfield Bond in Enville, Oklahoma, † 12 June 1978 ) was an American country music singer and songwriter also known as the "Singing Cowboy" in numerous Western films of the forties and fifties was seen.

Life

After finishing school Johnny Bond went to Oklahoma City, where he met Jimmy Wakely and Scotty Harrell and with them founded the band Bell Boys. For a local radio station they earned first money. 1939 began, the three musicians in a Roy Rogers movie. Then we moved to California in the hope of a career in the film business.

In Los Angeles, she was hired by Gene Autry Melody Ranch for his radio show. They worked as a sideman of the big stars, until the show was canceled in 1956.

Career

In addition to his appearances in the Melody Ranch Show Jonny Bond and Jimmy Wakely tried as soloists. Bond began in 1941 for the Columbia label records einzuspielen. Again and again he took minor film roles, mostly on side of Autry or the ascended as the star Wakeley. The sales of his records were not very convincing, since his voice was not sufficiently expressive. But get him some top 10 hits such as Oklahoma Waltz, Love Song in 32 Bars or Divorce Me COD. As a songwriter, he was more successful. Known titles such as Tomorrow Never Comes or Cimarron come from his pen.

1951 ran his record contract with Columbia. He changed a few times the label, but at first could not place in the charts themselves. It was not until 1964, after more than ten -year hiatus, he succeeded with Ten Little Bottles an unexpected comeback. The song, which he had previously recorded unsuccessfully for the Columbia label, moved up to number two on the country charts. His next singles also dealt with the issue of drinking and alcohol and influenced sustained its image.

In the seventies he produced records. He also began to write books. He has written biographies of Gene Autry ( never published) and Tex Ritter and worked on a book about Western music. From 1969 to 1970 he was the successor of Tex Ritter President of the Academy of Country Music. 1970 were honored Bond also with the inclusion into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The multi-talented Johnny Bond died on 12 June 1978. 1990 Bond was admitted posthumously inducted into the Western Music Association Hall of Fame and in 1999 into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
