Johnny Nash

John Lester Nash, Jr. ( born August 19, 1940 in Houston, Texas), better known as Johnny Nash, is an American pop and reggae musician and actor.

Life

Johnny Nash began as a pop singer, already in the 1950s, reaching with his version of the Doris Day song A Very Special Love 1958, the U.S. Billboard charts. Even as an actor, he was successful at a young age and starred in the films Take a Giant Step (1959) and Key Witness ( 1960) in lead roles.

He had on his own JAD label in 1968 further hits followed with Hold Me Tight, especially in the UK and his first major worldwide hit parade success: You Got Soul and Sam Cooke's Cupid. In the early 1970s he gave up his record label and signed a contract with CBS Records. In " Harry J studio" in Kingston / Jamaica he met on the outside of Jamaica still largely unknown Bob Marley, who gave him one of his songs: Stir It Up. This appeared on the CBS sub-label Epic reggae song Nash came in 1972 again in the British singles chart. Other titles written by Marley Nash added, such as Reggae on Broadway, Guava Jelly and Mellow Mood and he supported Marley during its incipient international career.

1971 Nash was also seen as an actor in the Swedish romance Vill så gärna tro as Composer Robert. His biggest hit in the U.S. in 1972 was I Can See Clearly Now, which he himself has written. In the version of the Jimmy Cliff song was at the end 1993/Anfang 1994 also successful. In 1975 Johnny Nash with the written by Ernie Smith song Tears on My Pillow another number -one hit in the UK.
