Johnny Shines

Johnny Shines (actually John Ned Shines; born April 26, 1915 in Frayser, Memphis, Tennessee, † April 20, 1992 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama ) was an American blues singer and guitarist.

Life

His youth Johnny Shines spent mostly in Memphis, where he earned an early age as a street musician with his slide guitar money. His first musical influences were Blind Lemon Jefferson and Howlin 'Wolf, however, he had learned from his mother to play the guitar.

1932 Shines moved to Hughes in Arkansas in order to hire themselves out as farm laborers. Here he met Robert Johnson, his greatest role model, who shines with the music brought back. Shines first played in the southern states. In 1941, he left for Canada, but could not get in Chicago. In 1946 he made ​​his first recordings, however, were not published.
