Johnson County (Indiana)

Johnson County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Franklin.

Geography

The County is located just south of the geographic center of Indiana and has an area of 833 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Marion County, Shelby County, Bartholomew County, Monroe County and Morgan County.

History

Johnson County was formed on December 31, 1822 as an original county of free territory. It was named after John Johnson, an early Justice of the Supreme Court of Indiana.
