Johnson County (Kansas)
The Johnson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Olathe.
The Johnson County is part of the metropolitan area of Kansas City.
Geography
The County is located in Eastern Kansas, bordered by Missouri and has an area of 1,244 square kilometers, of which nine square miles are water. It is bordered by the following counties:
History
The Johnson County was designated in 1855 as freely as from the original County - but in reality populated by Indians - Area of the Kansas Territory, and formed one of the first 33 counties that were formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after the Reverend Thomas Johnson (1802-1865), a Methodist missionary and member of the Board of the Kansas Territory, who was killed in the American Civil War by Confederate partisans.
A branch of the Santa Fe Trail runs through the county, settled here in 1858 Wild Bill Hickok for some time.
