The Johnson State College is a State University in Johnson in the north of the U.S. state of Vermont. At the University of 1,800 students are enrolled. It is a so-called liberal arts college. The college is part of the network of the Vermont State Colleges.

History

The university was founded in 1828 by John Chesamore as Johnson Academy. It is named after William Samuel Johnson, one of the founding fathers of the United States. 1867, the university in a so-called Normal School was converted for teacher training. Since the 1920 - 1930s, particularly the interdisciplinary education is encouraged and invited musicians, politicians, directors and spiritual leaders.

Research and teaching

A special feature of the Johnson State College is that all students enroll in bachelor's degree programs an interdisciplinary study program called Peace and War ( War and Peace ). In this course, the cause of violence is explained, as well as the impact on the individual, the social structures and society.

At the University of the Dibden Center for the Arts include a cultural and event center.

Students

Of the approximately 1,800 currently enrolled students are about 60 % of Vermont and 40 % from other U.S. states as well as a dozen other countries. The ratio of teachers to students is 1:19.

Sports

The sports teams of the University call the Badgers. The Johnson State College is a member of the North Atlantic Conference.
