Geography
Jöhstadt located in the Ore Mountains near the border with the Czech Republic, which can be reached via two border crossings for pedestrians. One leads from the city to the valley of the black water after Černý Potok ( Pleil - Sorgenthal ), the other is located in the Valley of the Preßnitz and leads from the town Schmalzgrube after Kryštofovy Hamry (Christoph Hammer).

History
Jöhstadt was founded in 1513 on the corridor of the already mentioned 1386 Waldhufen village Goswinsdorf. 1555 the site was designated as a mountain town and 1591 as spots. 1518 was the place of the mountain freedom, in 1655 the municipal law, but was only allowed to levy their own taxes from 1791.

Coat of arms
In the oldest known seal of 1553 a local fir and Köhler equipment ( poker, rake ) are shown. The number 1655 indicates the year of the award of the town charter. The coat of arms indicates silver discoveries in this area, the fir with the devices on active carbon distillery.
Description: Gold blaugegürteter a kneeling angel in a silver dress and silver wings holds the two blue coats of arms. These show the front crossed a golden hammer and chisel back a green fir trees rooted, diagonally crossed down poker and golden Köhler rake. In the sign the year in 1655.

Culture and sights
Museums
On the eight -kilometer stretch of Jöhstadt to Steinbach operates on a section of the former narrow gauge railway between Selva and Jöhstadt since 1993, a heritage railway which Preßnitztalbahn.
In Schlössel is the exhibition and vehicle hall of Preßnitztalbahn. In this multi-functional hall will be shown regularly exhibiting between May and October. A permanent exhibition is dedicated to the Preßnitztalbahn. There will be more themed events (even without reference to the Railway Museum ) instead.

Visitor Mine
Between the villages of Steinbach and Schmalzgrube located on the western slope of the Preßnitztales the visitor mine " Andreas - Gegentrum - Stolln " which takes its name from its location opposite derives (at center ) the " Andreas - Stolln ". At the visitor mine there is a breakpoint on the narrow gauge railway Wolkenstein Jöhstadt.
The mining area Jöhstadt is a selected site for the intended candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage mining region Erzgebirge.
Economy and infrastructure
In Jöhstadt is one of the largest wind farms located in Saxony. The main economic activities are small - and medium-sized industries (wood processing, equipment manufacturing ) and tourism. On the former site of the factory of E. C. Flader fire extinguishers factory today is still manufactured by the company PF pumps and fire extinguishing systems GmbH fire pumps.
The city is situated on the state road 265. 1892 received the hitherto remote Jöhstadt with the narrow gauge railway Wolkenstein Jöhstadt a railway connection. 1984, the traffic was stopped on the last section to Jöhstadt and dismantled the track.
Since 2000 there is a heritage railway by Schmalzgrube to Steinbach, which is driven on weekends with steam locomotives and significantly contributes to the tourism importance of the region. Since 1994, the city Jöhstadt is a licensed railway infrastructure companies for the narrow gauge railway Wolkenstein Jöhstadt.
