Joie Ray (athlete)

Joie William Ray ( born April 13, 1894 in Kankakee, † May 15, 1978 in Benton Harbor) was an American middle and long distance runners.

In 1920 he was at the Olympic Games in Antwerp roller over 1500 m.

In the team race over 3000 meters of the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924, he came on the 18th Place. Although he thus handed in a match result, he was like the rest of the U.S. team won a bronze medal.

In 1928 he was third in the Boston Marathon and won the U.S. elimination race for the marathon of the Olympic Games in Amsterdam, where he came in fifth place. He also launched the 10,000 m, finishing in 14th place.

Eight times he was U.S. champion in the mile run (1915, 1917-1923 ) and once each over 880 yards (1919), more than five miles ( 1916) and 10,000 m (1928 ). In the hall he took three times the national title over 1,000 yards ( 1918-1920 ) and more than two miles ( 1916, 1923, 1924).

Joie Ray was a professional taxi driver and started for the Illinois Athletic Club.
