Jois

Jois is a market town with 1433 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria.

Geography

The municipality is located in northern Burgenland. Jois is at 130 m above sea level on the slopes of the Leitha Mountains, directly on Lake Neusiedl in Burgenland, Austria. The Hungarian name of the village is Nyulas.

History

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). Since 1898, had to be used because of Magyarization the government in Budapest the Hungarian name Nyulas. After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ). Already in 1429 there was a market judge. The date of the ceremony market is not known.

Tourism

Jois is predominantly a summer tourist town ( 25,200 nights) and a wine-growing village. Jois belongs to the district of Neusiedl am See and is a market with a population of 1438 and a size of 25.91 km ². The place is located on the northeast edge of the Leitha Mountains and on the north shore of Lake Neusiedl and reach of the city limits of Vienna by car in a driving time of about 35 minutes over the east motorway A4. Here thrive on the sunny slopes the vines of the famous wines Jois and has the famous " Joiser Herzkirsche " originated, also adorns the coat of arms of the town. Countless cozy Heurigenkeller and wine taverns invite you to stop at a fine wine and a hearty Brettljause one.

In the local history museum for a trip to the former life of the village and the people begins. A wide range of club life maintains the rural tradition and also provides sporting and social events in the village. Apart from the usual Recreational comes in Jois the shooting sports great importance. A clubhouse with terrace offers the viewer the skeet, trap shooting and hunting course place. In summer, well-marked cycling and hiking trails to an excursion into the unspoilt countryside. In full nature reserve Hackelberg a Trail leads through the beautiful surroundings. The mild Pannonian climate contributes to the large recreational value of the site in quite considerably.

But even in winter you can relaxing, long walks in the very lovely winter landscape of the World Heritage National Park Lake Neusiedl Neusiedl and the Natural Park Lake Leitha Mountains enjoy. The Lake Neusiedl offers not only in summer, ideal for practicing a variety of sports such as swimming, sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing at, but invites a long distance skating, ice sailing, ice-surfing. On the grounds of the Jois ( yacht ) port operate three sailing clubs - the yacht club sea breeze, the Yacht Club Jois and the "Austrian army Yacht Club" - own club premises. The end of September, at harvest time, it is true idyllic, to walk in the narrow streets in the evening.
