Jojo Mayer

JoJo Mayer ( born January 18, 1963 in Zurich ) is a New York based drummer who has worked with such jazz greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Nina Simone and Monty Alexander, but it provided also with his own bands for attention. Similarly, firm in jazz as in rock music and drum and bass, he thrilled the audience as the criticism by his unusually energetic, so powerful as delicate game that puts him as a sideman and as a soloist in a position at any time to set the pace.

Life

As the son of bass player Vali Mayer it was too early childhood, especially in Europe and the Far East on the road. He got his first drum set at the age of two years, his first public appearance followed a year later in Hong Kong. He acquired largely self-taught his skills. At the age of 18 he got exposure to Monty Alexander's band and toured major European festivals such as Montreux, Nice, Antibes, etc. In 1995 he was a member of the Screaming Headless Torsos.

Since 1998 he plays in the New York band Nerve with which he transmits the improvisational spontaneity of jazz on the genre drum and bass, which makes him even in this style to one of the world 's most prominent drummers.
