Jokela

Jokela [ jɔkɛlɑ ] is a village in the municipality of Tuusula in southern Finland. It has about 5,300 inhabitants and is located in the north of the municipality on the railway line Helsinki - Riihimäki. Many residents commute Jokelas in the capital.

Until the mid-19th century, the area was sparsely populated by Jokela. The development Jokelas began after the opening of the railway in 1862. Due to the high clay soils in the area and the railway connection opened a brick factory in Jokela 1874. By industry Jokela grew into a populous settlement: 1920, the place had 570 inhabitants, in 1950 there were already 1,617.

On April 21, 1996, in Jokela a serious train accident, as the night train from Oulu to Helsinki P82 occurred when driving a turnout at excessive speed derailed. Four people were killed and 75 were injured.

When Jokela High School massacre on 7 November 2007 at the local school center, nine people were killed.
