Joli OS

Joli OS (formerly known as Jolicloud ) is a Linux distribution that was developed specifically for netbooks and based on Ubuntu. Joli OS is free software and designed to work with web-based alternative programs, which are incorporated by Prism. Joli OS is based on Ubuntu Netbook Remix, which currently the Long Term Support version 10:04 " Lucid Lynx" Ubuntu is based. In March 2011, the renaming of the distribution of Jolicloud Joli OS was announced in order to stand out from the own web desktop for Google Chrome with the same name.

Objective

Joli OS is developed by Tariq Krim, the inventor of the website Netvibes. He wants to make laptops so effective by free and web-based software is used increasingly. Joli OS is therefore a strong integration of applications and services of the social web.

Technically aims Joli OS on low power requirements and low hardware requirements and is designed for parallel operation with Windows. A focus is on a fast, simple installation ( graphical Windows installer Joli OS Express), short starting times and the automatic start-up of equipment for wireless data transmission ( Bluetooth, WLAN, UMTS).

Another main focus is on networking, so that automatically connect to the Joli OS community is built on the creation of an internet connection. The idea is, a social network to directly integrate the user interface. This connection is optional and can be deactivated after the installation.

User interface

In the user interface of Joli OS Web services such as Twitter, Facebook and Skype are integrated. In addition, all options are available, which provides a normal Ubuntu system.

Technology

Joli OS is based on HTML5 and Chromium, which serve to integrate Web applications to a computer locally. Furthermore Joli OS can be installed in parallel to other operating systems on one computer.
