Jomda County

Jomda ( Joda ) is a county in the district Qamdo in the Tibet Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. It has an area of 13,200 km ² and according to the 1990 census, 59 994 inhabitants, of whom 59 585 Tibetans ( 99.3%) and 398 Han Chinese ( 0.7%). In 2003 Jomda had about 70,000 inhabitants.

Jomda located in the eastern Damala Mountains (also Ningjing Shan) between the Jinsha River, the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. The circle is an average of 3800 meters above sea level. The climate is characterized by the height and one can clearly see a wet and a dry season differed. The annual rainfall is on average 548.5 mm.

In Jomda both farmers and ranchers live. There are mainly highland barley, sorghum and canola grown and maintained yaks, cattle, sheep and horses.

The Sichuan -Tibet road passes through Jomda, the circle is therefore an important transit area.

Gamtog is famous for his performances of traditional legends.

Jomda is the traditional Tibetan region of Kham (Tibetan: khams ) associate and was originally ruled by Dege in Garzê, Sichuan Province, from. After the fall of the Prince of Dege in 1909 Jomda was ruled directly by officials of the Qing Dynasty. During the Republic of China Jomda belonged to the province Xikang. 1950 Xikang was split: one part was incorporated into the province of Sichuan and Qamdo was administered separately. 1965 Qamdo and thus Jomda was the Tibet Autonomous Region incorporated.
