Jon Awe

Jon Awe ( born April 30, 1980 in Memphis, Tennessee ) is an American professional ice hockey player who is since July 2011 HC Valpellice from the Italian Serie A1 under contract.

Career

Jon Awe played from 1999 at Texas Tornado in the North American Hockey League, for whom he stood in the following two years on the ice. Following the Americans decided to study at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts to attend. During this time he also played hockey for the University team, the Northeastern Huskies in the Hockey East. Overall, he was four years for their team on the ice before the ungedraftete Awe received a contract with the Gwinnett Gladiators in the ECHL for the 2005/06 season. In his debut season, the defender was one of the permanent employees of the Gladiator and was compared to his university days especially greatly improved in the offensive area, which was reflected in the statistics. In 49 games of the regular season, the physically strong Awe posted 35 points scorer and was named after the All- Rookie team in the league.

In the playoffs, the defender reached the finals of the team to the Kelly Cup, where the team in five games to the Alaska Aces defeated. In the same season he also came for the Portland Pirates and Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League action. In the season 2006/ 07 Awe increased his offensive statistics again significantly and was elected as the end of the season to the First All -Star team of the ECHL and honored as ECHL Defenseman of the Year.
