Jon Cassar
Jon Cassar (* April 27, 1958 in Malta ) is a Canadian director and producer. He is mainly known through the dramatic action series 24 starring Kiefer Sutherland.
Life
Jon Cassar was born in Malta and raised in the Canadian city of Ottawa, where he attended Algonquin College. In his career, he first worked with the film camera as a camera operator, then from 1992 as a director and later as a producer. In the U.S., that he introduced in 1995 in four episodes of Baywatch Nights director. He lived a long time in Toronto, where he worked in the dramatic spy series Nikita with producer Joel Surnow and Robert Cochran with. He sat the pilot and thirteen more episodes with the actors Peta Wilson, Roy Dupuis, Alberta Watson, Eugene Robert Glazer, Don Francks and Matthew Ferguson at the scene. He led in all five seasons in each of the first episode directed by and is mostly known for his action scenes. 1998 Cassar was nominated as a director in Nikita for a Gemini Award and indeed for the follow 1:14 Checkmate ( Gambit ).
In 2002 he moved with his wife and his younger son to Los Angeles and the director of the most widely used agent series 24 was in the first season of this action series he directed two episodes directed. Then Stephen Hopkins left the series, and dedicated Surnow Cassar as producer and frequent director who was in charge in more than one third of the consequences for the government. In various roles, he starred in the first six seasons 125 times in the series and created series episodes and three prequels.
He also directs films for his company Cassar Filmworks.
2004 Cassar was nominated for his directing skills in a series of 24 from the Directors Guild of America for a DGA Award. In 2007 he received along with other this price. 2003, 2004 and 2005, he was nominated for 24 Emmy. The Emmy Awards 2006, he got two for 24 awards, namely the Director sequence in 7:00 AM -8: 00 AM and for the best dramatic television series. In the Monte Carlo TV Festival 2006, he received a Golden Nymph shared with others for 24th in the same year he was together with other 24 PGA Golden Laurel Awards at the nominated Television Producer of the Year Award in Episodic, 2007 as well.
As an author Cassar wrote the English text of the photo book 24: Behind the Scenes ( 2006), which contains many set photos of the first five seasons of 24. The images come from him, the cameraman Rodney Charters, Isabella Vosmikova and others.
Jon Cassar founded with Nigel Bennett and John Kapelos the charity Motion Picture Industry Charitable Alliance ( MPICA ). In the annual Lights, Camera, Auction filmmakers auction donated props to fans. LCA 10 will be the last such event. It took place from October 5 to 7, 2007 in Los Angeles.
Cassar, Joel Surnow, Robert Cochran and David Ehrman plan in 2007, the series and the pilot episode Company Man, whose working title was NSA Innocent.
