Jon Clay

Jonathan Davis " Jonny " Clay ( born June 26, 1963 in Leeds ) is a former British road and track cyclists.

On the road Jonny Clay launched mainly for racing in his home country, a few times even in Australia, Italy, Sweden and Belgium. In 1986 he became British vice-champion of the amateurs in the road race. In 1990 he finished second overall in the Herald Sun Tour, 1992 and 1998, he won the Tour of Lancashire and in 1992, the Tom Simpson Memorial. In 1997 he was third in the National Championship in the time trial on the road and 2000 national runner-up in the road race. Also in 2000 he won the Scottish cycling race The Girvan.

On the railway Clay was preferentially active in international competitions. In 1998 he won the British rail - four ( Colin Sturgess, Matthew Illingworth, Bradley Wiggins ) at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, the silver medal in the team pursuit. In the UCI Track World Championships 2000 in Manchester was the four ( with Bradley Wiggins, Paul Manning and Chris Brown) Vice World Champion.

Clay started in 2000 in two disciplines at the Olympic Games in Sydney: In the points race, he finished 13th in the team pursuit won the British team ( Bryan Steel, Paul Manning, Bradley Wiggins, Chris Brown), the bronze medal. He then ended his cycling career.

Jonny Clay comes from a cycling family: His parents were both active cyclist, his mother multiple British champion on the track. His wife was cyclist.
