Jon Lucien

Jon Lucien, Lucien actually John "Billy" Harrigan, ( born January 8, 1942 in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, † August 14, 2007 in Orlando, Florida ) was an indigenous to the U.S. smooth jazz singer and crooner with Caribbean roots.

Life and work

Lucien grew up as the son of a blind guitarist in Saint Thomas ( U.S. Virgin Islands) on, learned to play guitar and piano and was influenced early on by Nat King Cole, while he was still playing in his father's band bass. In 1961 he went to New York City, where he first broke through to weddings and Bar Mitzvahs as a singer. A wedding guest was with RCA Records, and in 1970 there appeared his debut album I am Now, followed in 1973 by Lady Love and Rashida, both of which received a Grammy Award, and Mind's Eye, 1974 ( with lists Love and World of Joy), which produced by Dave Grusin been. It should be built at RCA as a kind of " black Frank Sinatra ", but followed his own Latin American ( him covered, among other things Dindi by Antonio Carlos Jobim ) and Caribbean -influenced style. Until the late 1970s, he took two albums on CBS on ( Song for my lady 1975 Premonition 1976), the emerging disco wave pushed him to the sidelines. After one of his daughters, Zeudi Jacira, 1980 drowned in a swimming pool, he fell into a depression, accompanied by cocaine addiction. 1982 still appeared Romantico, he appeared almost ten years under. In 1991, he had with lists Love ( Mercury ) making a comeback, and his old songs were played more frequently on the radio. Mother Natures Son appeared in 1993 ( Polygram ). In England, his music was popular as a remix on the acid jazz fans.

Died in 1996 his 17- year-old daughter Delilah in the TWA 800 plane crash off Long Iceland. He dedicated to her and the passengers his album Endless is Love ( Shanachie 1997). Published in 1999 By Request and Precious. He also took on increasingly spiritual songs, as in his last album The Wayfarer - Songs of Praise. Four albums released on his label Sugar Apple Records. In 2005, he underwent a kidney transplant, in consequence of which he eventually died.

Lucien was married four times.
