Jon Andrew McBride ( born August 14, 1943 in Charleston, West Virginia ) is a former American astronaut.

McBride studied from 1960 to 1964 at West Virginia University in 1971 and received a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.

In 1965, McBride for United States Navy and was trained there to naval aviation. During the Vietnam War he flew 64 combat missions. On the Edwards Air Force Base, he trained as a test pilot. He holds a commercial pilot license and has worked as a pilot instructor.

Astronauts activity

In January 1978, McBride was selected by NASA as an astronaut candidate.
