Jonas Björkman

Jonas Björkman ( born March 23, 1972 in Växjö ) is a former Swedish tennis player.

Life

In his career he won six individual titles. In 1997 he was listed as number four of the individual rankings. His biggest success in Grand Slam tournaments in the individual competition were the semi-finals at the U.S. Open in 1997, where he was inferior to Greg Rusedski ( 1:6, 6:3, 6:3, 3:6, 5:7 ), and reaching the semi-finals at the All England Championships at Wimbledon in 2006, where, however, he clearly failed to Roger Federer ( 2:6, 0:6, 2:6 ). In double Björkman was even more successful. 54 doubles titles, nine Grand Slam tournaments, he had won until the end of his career. By winning the French Open 2005, he completed his career Grand Slam, as he had already won Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the Australian Open. Twice he also won the Tennis Masters Cup.

Between 1994 and 2008 he played 36 matches for the Swedish Davis Cup team. Both his solo record with 18:11 victories as well as his record in doubles with victories 21:14 is positive. In the years 1994, 1997 and 1998, he won the Swedish team to the Davis Cup. In addition, he was in 1996 one more time in the final.
