Jonas G. Howard

Jonas George Howard ( * May 22, 1825 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, † October 5, 1911 in Jeffersonville, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1885 and 1889 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jonas Howard first attended private schools and went on to study at Indiana Asbury College, later DePauw University in Greencastle. After subsequent law studies at the Louisville Law School in Kentucky and Indiana University in Bloomington, as well as its made ​​in 1852 admitted to the bar he began in Jeffersonville to work in this profession. Between 1854 and 1879 he was several times the legal representatives of this city. In the years 1859-1863 he was a member of the local city council.

Politically, Howard was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1863 to 1866 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Indiana. In the congressional elections of 1884 he was in the third electoral district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Strother M. floor storage on March 4, 1885. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1889 two legislative sessions. In 1888, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Jonas practiced again as a lawyer in Jeffersonville. He also dealt with agricultural matters. He died on October 5, 1911 in Jeffersonville, where he was also buried.
