Jonas Prapiestis

Prapiestis Jonas ( born August 2, 1952 in Kupiškis, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian criminal lawyer and former politician, Minister of Justice of Lithuania, a professor at the University of Vilnius.

Life

1975 ended Prapiestis the Diploma in Legal Studies at the Faculty of Law, Vilnius University. From 1978 to 1982 he studied as an aspirant at the Lomonosov University in Moscow and earned his doctorate candidate of legal sciences. He then worked as a legal scholar in Vilnius.

From February 1990 to 1992 he was a member of the Seimas. From November 1992 to March 1996 he was Minister of Justice of Lithuania, then moved to 2005 judge of the Constitutional Court of Lithuania ( Lietuvos Respublikos Konstitucinis Teismas ). Since July 2005 he has been judge of the Supreme Court of Lithuania ( Lietuvos Aukščiausiasis Teismas ) and since December 2007 he has been Chairman of the Criminal Division ( of the Criminal Division ).

Since 2005 teaches Jonas Prapiestis as lecturer and since 2011 as Professor Criminal Law (general part ) at the University of Vilnius.

Jonas Prapiestis is married and has two children, both lawyers.
