Jonathan Bornstein

Jonathan Bornstein ( born November 7, 1984 in Torrance, California) is an American soccer player who is used as a defender and midfielder.

Youth and College

Bornstein attended Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, California. During his time there he played football for the school team. After graduating, he moved to the Cal Poly Pomona, where he played two years of college football, before joining the UCLA Bruins in 2004.

Club career

On 20 January 2006 he was selected by the CD Chivas USA in the MLS Super Draft in the fourth round. During his time at college he plays in the storm, but Chivas coach Bob Bradley put him at left-back. These first games he played in that position, but due to injuries during the season, he was also temporarily reinstated in the offensive part of the team. And on 3 June 2006, where he scored his first goal in the game against FC Dallas. Due to his good performances during the season he won the MLS Rookie of the Year Award. A year later he was voted into the best team of the season.

During the 2008 season, then- coach Preki put him back in an attacking midfield.

In July 2010 Chivas announced that Bornstein will change after the end of the 2010 season to the UANL Tigres.

The Portland Timbers secured in their MLS Expansion Draft in November 2010, the rights to Bornstein. Should he wish to return to the United States before the expiry of his contract in Mexico, the Timbers would hold the rights to him.

National

Bornstein made ​​his international debut on 20 January 2007 against Denmark. In this game, he also scored his first goal for the U.S. national soccer team. His first major tournament he completed the summer of 2007 at the Copa América.

In 2008, he lost his place in the team of Heath Pearce and had to contend with some injuries.
