Jonathan Groff

Jonathan Groff ( born March 26, 1985 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania) is an American film and theater actor.

Life

Childhood and youth

Jonathan Groff, son of Jim and Julie Groff, grew up in Ronks, a small rural community in Lancaster County, and attended until 2003, the Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster. After graduation he moved to New York City to build up from there a career as an actor. To be able to keep financially afloat, he worked as a waiter in a restaurant in Hell's Kitchen (Manhattan ) and also as a social worker in a theater camp for youth.

Career

Unlike many young actors who are first famous in film and television, and later at the theater, Groff celebrated his acting debut October to December 2005 in the musical on Broadway in My Life. After a year's absence from Broadway, he was then engaged from November 2006 to May 2008 for the role of Melchior Gabor in the musical Spring Awakening. In 2007 he was nominated for three of the most important theater awards, the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and a Theatre World Award, with which the young actor was also excellent. At the same time stood Groff in other theater productions on the stage, including in the summer of 2008 in Hair.

2007 Groff was also discovered by a television producer, so that he was seen in eleven episodes of the U.S. soap opera love, lies, passion for the first time on camera. A year later in 2008, he convinced in the film drama Pretty / Handsome alongside Joseph Fiennes and Robert Wagner. His breakthrough as a film actor he had in 2009 with his portrayal of music producer Michael Lang in the film on the history of the Woodstock Festival Taking Woodstock.

Groff lives openly homosexual in New York City. Until July 2013 he had a relationship with actor Zachary Quinto.
