Jonathan Harvey (playwright)

Jonathan Paul Harvey ( born June 13, 1968 in Liverpool) is a British playwright.

Harvey studied at the University of Hull and was then a teacher at a comprehensive school in Thamesmead, London. There, he was commissioned to write a piece for the Royal Court Young People's Theatre: " Wildfire ", which was premiered in 1992 at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs. In the same year he also wrote his most known and most successful piece Beautiful Thing. The story of two 16 -year-old classmate Jamie Gangel and Steven Pearce who experience their first love and although interrelated, which premiered on 28 July 1993 at the Bush Theatre, London.

The piece was so enthusiastically received at each theater, where it was shown that the television station Channel Four Films 1996 a screenplay for the film adaptation was commissioned at Harvey. Harvey expanded his piece, so it was movie justice, and the film was with the theater students were Glen Berry ( Jamie ) and Scott Neal ( Steven ) filmed in the lead roles, directed by Hettie McDonald. Also the film was a great success.
