Jonathan Scoville

Jonathan Scoville (* July 14, 1830 in Salisbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut, † March 4, 1891 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1880 and 1883 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Jonathan Scoville attended various educational institutions in Massachusetts. This also included the scientific branch of Harvard University. In 1854 he worked in Canaan in the iron production and mining. In 1860, he moved to Buffalo, where he founded a car company. A year later he opened another in Toronto, Canada. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

Following the resignation of Mr Ray V. Pierce Scoville was in the due election for the 32th seat from New York as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 12 November 1880. After a re-election, he could remain until March 3, 1883 in Congress. 1882 renounced Scoville on another Congress candidate. In the years 1884 and 1885 he was mayor of Buffalo. He died on March 4, 1891 in New York City and was buried in his native Salisbury.
