Jonathan Shay

Jonathan Shay (* 1941) is an American psychiatrist and nonfiction author. He has dealt primarily with the post-traumatic stress disorder.

Curriculum vitae

Shay was educated at Harvard and received his bachelor's degree in 1963. He then moved to the University of Pennsylvania, where, in 1971 and 1972, the MD received his Ph. D.. Since 1987 he is a psychiatrist at the Department of Veteran Affairs Outpatient Clinic in Boston, Massachusetts. Shay has received the MacArthur " Genius Grant" Fellowship for his work.

Scientific work

Shay has written several books about the PTSD. The two best known are Achilles in Vietnam - Combat Trauma and the Undoing of Character ( German: Achilles in Vietnam - Combat Trauma and loss of personality ) and Odysseus in America: Combat Trauma and the Trials of Homecoming.
