Jonathon Blum

Jonathon Blum ( born January 30, 1989 in Long Beach, California) is an American professional ice hockey player who is since July 2013 when the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League contract, but primarily for their farm team, the Iowa game, for use comes.

Previously, he was in December 2007 at the Nashville Predators signed and played since 2009 in parallel for the Predators and their farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals. In his youth he played for the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League. With the Giants defensive player won the 2007 Memorial Cup. Career

Western Hockey League

Jonathon Blum was born in Long Beach, California and grew up in Rancho Santa Margarita. Until 2005, he went for the California Wave on the ice and was selected in the Bantam Draft of the Western Hockey League in the seventh round of the Vancouver Giants. In his rookie season in the WHL in 2005/ 06 he scored 24 points scorer. In the play-offs Blum get eight more points and the Vancouver Giants won as champions of the WHL the President's Cup, in addition, the team earned a participation in the Memorial Cup in 2006. During the season on Vancouver again reached the final round of the Western Hockey League, there defeated the team the Medicine Hat Tigers in the best- of-seven series with 3:4 games. The Giants qualified automatically as hosts of the Memorial Cup in 2007. In the final of this competition, the Giants met the Hat Tigers. The Vancouver Giants prevailed with a 3-1 goals and won their first Memorial Cup.

Before the upcoming NHL Entry Draft, an annual event in which teams of the National Hockey League can secure the rights to promising young players to the Canadian was rated as the 17th best North American youth players. During the draft, Blum was selected in the first round at a total of 23 positions from the Nashville Predators. Blum took part in the training camp of the Predators, but was not nominated for the team and sent back to the Giants. A little later he signed with the Predators an entry contract for three years.

At the beginning of the WHL season 2008/ 09 Blum was appointed captain of the Vancouver Giants. After the defender scored 14 points in the first ten games of the season, he was named Player of the Month September / October. The Americans finished the season with 66 points in 51 games scorer and was awarded the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy as the best defender of the Western Hockey League. In addition, he was selected All- Star team in the WHL First. When choosing the Defenceman of the Year of the Canadian Hockey League, he won against Ryan Ellis ( OHL ) and Dmitry Kulikov ( QMJHL ). In the play-offs this season, the Giants dropped out in the Western Conference Finals against the Kelowna Rockets.

Career as a professional player

After the play-off from the Giants was Jonathon Blum in the squad of the Milwaukee Admirals, Nashville's farm team in the American Hockey League, was appointed to assist the team in the championship finals of the AHL season 2008/ 09. The admiral met in the second play-off round to the Houston Aeros and retired after seven games played. The player also completed the following season in Milwaukee. Blum scored 41 points in 80 games before the team in the first play-off round of the Chicago Wolves defeated.

After he began the AHL 2010/11 season with the Milwaukee Admirals, he was appointed on February 22, 2011 in the cadre of the Nashville Predators and spent the rest of the season in the National Hockey League.

In July 2013 Blum signed a two -way one-year contract with the Minnesota Wild. As part of the pre-season Blum was not available for the NHL squad and was therefore transferred in September 2013 in the AHL with the Iowa game.

Internationally

Jonathon Blum took the U.S. national team for the first time at the U20 World Youth Championship in 2008. The team finished in the tournament in fourth place. The defense also came in the U20 Junior World Championship 2009 for use. Blum ran in this competition as team captain of Americans and finally finished with his team to fifth place.
