Jones County (Georgia)

The Jones County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Gray, named after James Madison Gray, who financially supported the Confederacy during the Civil War.

Geography

The County is located about 30 km north of the geographic center of Georgia and has an area of 1024 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface, and borders clockwise to the following counties: Putnam County, Baldwin County, Wilkinson County, Twiggs County, Bibb County, Monroe County, and Jasper County.

History

Jones County was formed on December 10, 1807 30 County of Georgia from parts of Baldwin County. It was named after James Jones, a Congress Member of Georgia.
