Jones County (Iowa)

The Jones County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In 2010, the County had 20,638 inhabitants and a population density of 13.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Anamosa, named after the Indian word for small dog or after the first name of the daughter of the Indian chief Winnebago.

The County is located in eastern Iowa, is in the east about 50 km from Illinois, in the northeast about 45 miles from Wisconsin and has an area of 1,494 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Jones County was on 21 December 1837 the former Wisconsin - formed territory. It was named after George W. Jones (1804-1896), a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1835-1839) and later U.S. Senator from Iowa ( 1848-1859 ).
