Joni Eareckson Tada
Joni Eareckson Tada (born 15 October 1949 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA) is an American author and artist.
Biography
Joni Eareckson is the youngest of four sisters.
On July 20, 1967, it withdrew in a swimming accident in the Chesapeake Bay a broken neck between the 4th and 5th cervical vertebrae. Since that day, she is Tetraplegikerin, with no prospect of a cure. Joni was first in the city hospital, later treated in rehabilitation hospitals Green Oaks and Rancho Los Alamos. Thanks to intensive training, Joni can raise their arms to some degree and reduce, but not move the fingers and wrists.
She is an artist, merging the brush with the mouth. Joni signed their drawing with PTL ( Praise the Lord ), because she has a strong faith. Previously Joni was an enthusiastic equestrienne. After the accident, she sold her horses and other valuable things for them at that time, with which they would be able to do anything more in the future and built a new life. Their fate was filmed. Joni played in even the lead role. Since 1982, Joni is married to Ken Tada and still lives in the USA.
Joni Eareckson is the author of 35 books, including her autobiography, Joni, have been sold in 40 languages from more than 3 million copies. The main theme is dealing with suffering and disability, the right to life for the disabled, euthanasia and Christian devotions.
In 1979, she founded Joni and Friends International Disability Center, a Christian relief organization for the disabled. This charity shines daily radio broadcasts from, provides holidays for disabled people and their families, collects and restores old wheelchairs for the Third World in the Wheels for the World Action and teaches Christian communities in dealing with the disabled.
She has a consultative status with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization in the field working with disabled people.
For her work she received four honorary doctorates and several awards from disability organizations. Even as a writer of Christian books, she was awarded.
Joni Eareckson Tada sings the theme song "Alone Yet Not Alone " in movies, the film was nominated for an Oscar in the category "Best Original Song ".
