Jonny Searle

Jonathan William C. " Jonny " Searle ( born May 8, 1969 in Walton-on -Thames ) is a British rower, who was Olympic champion in 1992 in the twin with coxswain.

Career

Jonathan Searle was at the Junior World Championships 1986 second in the coxless four, 1987, he rowed in the winning foursome. The World Rowing Championships 1989, he won bronze in the aft his first medal in the senior category. 1990 was taken by the British Roller fourth place at the World Rowing Championships, with it was now his younger brother Gregory Searle. 1991 won the two brothers with the eight World Cup bronze. 1992 changed the two together with the coxswain Garry Herbert in pairs with coxswain. In the finals of the Olympic Regatta 1992 by Barcelona, the British defeated the Italian two with Carmine Abbagnale, Giuseppe Abbagnale and Giuseppe Di Capua, who had dominated this boat class in the 1980s. The brothers Searle and helmsman Herbert won even at the World Rowing Championships in 1993.

1994 formed the Searles along with Tim Foster and Rupert Obholzer a coxless four and thus won bronze medalist and 1995 World Championship silver in 1996 was followed by bronze at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. 1997 and 1998 Jonathan Searle came in the World Cup without much success in sculling boats in 1999, he moved back into the coxless four. The World Rowing Championships 1999, he started in non-Olympic coxed four and won again the World Cup silver.
