Joonas Vihko

Joonas Vihko ( born April 6, 1981 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since May 2013 in Hämeenlinna HPK in the SM- liiga under contract.

Career

Joonas Vihko began his career as a hockey player in his youth HIFK Helsinki for the first team, he made his debut in the SM- liiga in the 2000 /01 season. The following year, the attacker got the Jarmo - Wasama Memorial Trophy as the best in the SM- liiga Neuprofi and was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 in the fourth round as a total of 103 players from the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. This does not, however, took him under contract. After five seasons in Helsinki's first team, Vihko changed during the 2005/ 06 season to their league rivals Jokerit Lapeenranta. After only one year of legal shooter was obliged by HPK Hämeenlinna. With Hämeenlinna in 2007 he reached the final of the first IIHF European Champions Cup, in which he said Russia's Ak Bars Kazan clearly defeated opponents with his team with 0:6 and then ended the 2006/07 season in Finland in third place. In the season 2009/10 he reached with Hämeenlinnan Pallokerho the playoff finals and lost the series against TPS Turku. For the following season the Finn has signed a contract with Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien, for whom he played more than 180 games - Elitserien until 2013, where he collected 83 points scorer.

In May 2013 his running contract was terminated with the Luleå HF and Vihko returned to HPK.
