Joop van den Ende

Joop van den Ende ( born February 23, 1942 in Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a musical, theatrical and film producer.

Life and work

Joop van den Ende grew up in a working class family in Amsterdam. After completion of the Ambachtsschool (vocational school ), he worked for a year in the building trade, and then began training as a stage designer at the Netherlands Opera. With the Amsterdam youth theater he founded his own cabaret group. After army service, he became an actor. After several years as a performer, he decided to become a producer.

In 1969, he began his career as an independent theater and television producer. The end of 1975, the first milestone was the production of the Dutch version of the French play Cyrano de Bergerac. Added to this were: Sweet Charity, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, My Fair Lady, Evita, Miss Saigon, West Side Story, Chicago and Elizabeth.

In 1980 he produced Paul Verhoeven's film Spetters after its trunk producer Rob Houwer had left the project.

Born in 1993, Endemol Entertainment result of a merger between Van den Ende and John de Mol, the company went public in 1996 and was bought in 2000 by the Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica.

In 1998, he had already bought the production area for live entertainment within the Endemol. This resulted Stage Entertainment BV, an international entertainment group with theaters, productions, offices and ticket sales organizations in eight countries. The JOOP VAN DEN END ACADEMY he established in Hamburg a qualified junior training; it provides a nationally recognized vocational training for musical performers.

Together with his wife Janine, he founded in 2001 one of the largest Dutch private funds that VandenEnde Foundation. In 1999, he tried to take over the insolvent company Musical "Stella". 2 1/2 years, the " DE G " the largest German and European musical society managed. In 2002 it was finally time, DE G did not make it too, and so the Stagholding was based in Hamburg. The houses Duisburg (Les Miéerable ) and Bochum ( Starlight Express) were not included. But for Stuttgart Apollo Theater ( Dance of the Vampires ), the palladium (The Beauty and the Beast ), Oberhausen metronome (2005: Beauty and the Beast ), Food Colloseum (Joseph ), Hamburg's Neue Flora ( Phantom ), operetta house (Cats ), Port Theatre ( the Lion King ), Berlin theater of the West, Potsdamer Platz ( Hunchback of Notre Dame). As of August 2005, Stage Holding was umbenant in Stage Entertainment. Then there was the Stage Academy and Holiday on Ice, as well as Aida tour productions.

He was honored by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg with the Biermann - Ratjen Medal for his artistic services to the music and theater scene in the city of Hamburg in 2005.

Since 2005 he has about Living City Property Performance, a joint venture with Trimp & Van Tartwijk, also in the field of real estate development actively.
