Joop Wijn

Joop Wijn ( born May 20, 1969 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch politician. Wijn was Minister of Economic Affairs in the Cabinet Balkenende III. He is a member of the Christian Democratisch Appèl (CDA ).

Life

After his schooling Wijn studied at the University of Amsterdam Economics and Law. During his studies he began in the meantime for the company Royal Dutch Shell in Jakarta, Indonesia to work. In addition, he worked while studying as a teacher of economics and started his own agency. Wijn reached in 1994 at the University in both programs as a Masters degree. He received a professional job at the bank ABN Amro as an investment manager.

In 1998 he was member of the Dutch Parliament, the Second Chamber of the States General. WJN worked as a deputy in the fields of public finance, small business and immigration policy. Wijn included within his party of Christians Democratisch Appèl of the few MPs who supported the approval of same-sex marriage. The debate on the issue caused tension between his personal life and his political preferences, as Wijn openly gay lives.

In July 2002 Wijn was in the Cabinet Balkenende I Secretary of State in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and was given the responsibility for the foreign trade. In the Cabinet Balkenende II was Wijn Secretary of the Treasury. In the cabinet Balkenende III Wijn was Minister of Economic Affairs. In the Cabinet Balkenende IV Wijn was no longer represented in the government. Successor of Wijn as Minister of Economics in 2007, the politician Maria van der Hoeven, a deputy of Christians Democratisch Appèl that was II previously been Minister of Education in the Cabinet Balkenende.
