Joos van Winghe

Jodocus van Winghe or Joos van Winghe (* 1542/44 in Brussels; † in Frankfurt am Main, 1603) was a Flemish painter of historical scenes.

Life

During a stay in Italy in the 1560s, he learned works by Anthoni Santvort Jan Speckaert and Bartholomew Spranger know. 1568 he is in Brussels, detected as court painter to the Governor of the Netherlands, Alessandro Farnese. 1584 or 1585, he moved on religious grounds to Frankfurt am Main and 1588 the citizens of Frankfurt. Van Winghe was Mitgliede the Dutch painter shaft in Frankfurt. He received commissions from, inter alia, by the German Emperor Rudolph II, one of the most important art patrons of his time.

From Van Winghe few paintings have survived. In addition, there are around 20 drawings and about 40 stitches.
