Joppolo Giancaxio
Joppolo Giancaxio is a city in the province of Agrigento in the Italian region Sicily.
Location and data
Joppolo Giancaxio located 16 kilometers north of Agrigento in the interior. Here live 1235 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012), who mainly work in agriculture.
The neighboring municipalities are Agrigento, Aragona, Raffadali and Santa Elisabetta.
History
The present city was founded in 1693 by Calogero Gabriele Colonna. Until 1926 Joppolo Giancaxio one of Aragona, this year, the municipality became independent.
Attractions
The town has two main streets, the Corso Umberto and Via Progresso that are perpendicular to each other. The parish church dates from the 18th century. The Colonna castle has a tower and crenellated walls, it is privately owned.
